Many foreign-born individuals find that their speech pronunciation keeps other people from understanding what they say. International speakers of English often want to sound more like native-born English speakers. And they want self-confidence. Dr. Antonia Lawrence Johnson has developed a successful program to increase pronunciation accuracy for international persons, the Clear Talk Communication ™ program. The program has assessed and instructed over 550 people from 54 countries of origin in Colorado and Florida (Miami-Dade County where 52% of all residents were born in another country).

Very effective and efficient English speech learning is the mission of the Clear Talk program. In fact, the average intelligibility gain for over 550 students has been 30% in the first semester.

What makes Clear Talk training so effective and efficient?

• A specially designed diagnostic assessment determines precisely what changes are needed in each person’s speech.
• Learners meet once a week for 10 weeks of instruction. Students are trained for vocal strength, speech intelligibility, and using clear English in all situations.
• Practical use of 100 years of research findings from speech and hearing sciences, linguistics, kinesiology, as well as mastery learning principles enriches class sessions and home practice materials.

To maximize speaking practice time in class and feedback about the accuracy of pronunciation, no more than 6 persons are in each class.

When the voice is injured from misuse or overuse or because of medical problems, voice and speech therapy can restore it. At the Center for Talk Mastery, we treat people with vocal nodules, voice overuse and misuse, speech articulation problems, MS, PD, CVA (stroke), and other neuromotor disorders.
